Cut Flower Care and Handling: Anthurium

Anthurium, also known as Flamingo Lily, Tailflower, Painter’s Pallete, Laceleaf or Oilcloth Flower is native to South America. They are typically red, but they also come in a variety of colors including white, yellow, orange, green, pink, purple and multi-colored.

For the grower, you will find recommendations on processing, such as making sure the harvested Anthurium should be hydrated immediately in a solution of Hydraflor® 100, especially if you intend to ship them by dry pack. We also offer storage and transport tips for you, along with recommendations on effective Floralife products to get the job done.
For the Wholesaler and Retailer, it’s helpful to realize that different varieties can have different qualities, and may not be suited for every location. So study up and purchase wisely. You will also read about what to look for (bright colors, glossy spathes, etc.) and what to avoid (black spots, blackening color, etc.)
You will want to unpack them immediately and recut the stems. If you have time and lots of stems, hydrate in a solution of Hydraflor® 100. If time is tight and stems are fewer, use Floralife® Quick Dip 100 to improve intake.
